The Cyprus Scientific Committee of
Underwater Activities (Part of CFUA) would like to convey our gratitude to the
Cyprus Tourist Organization, particularly to Mr. Glafkos Kariolou, an
exceptionally experienced scientist. His professional guidance and extraordinary
knowledge, together with his tremendous mastery of maritime affairs, has helped
us from the very early stage of research of the Mazotos shipwreck and related
activities on marine affairs. He enables us to gather strength and cope with all
the issues concerning sea matters in Cyprus.
We are also grateful to the University
of Cyprus, especially to Dr. Stella Demesticha. Her scientific perception has
made us a continuous oasis of ideas and passions in underwater archeology.
Professor Demetrios Michaelides, director of the research unit of archaeology at
the University of Cyprus has been a crucial contributor; he is the backbone of
this research. In addition, we would like to express our sincere appreciation to
the Thetis Foundation, especially to Mr. Adonis Papadopoulos, with his highly
valuable contribution and his love for Cyprus. The Mazotos project would not
have existed without him.
Individual acknowledgments are also owed
to our colleague members of the Cyprus Federation Scientific Committee for their
volunteer work on the Mazotos shipwreck, the Liberty shipwreck, the
risk-evaluation assessment, and the assignments from the Cyprus Tourist
Organization on marine biodiversity of the Mazotos shipwreck and training Cyprus
University students in scuba diving in accordance with CMAS standards. It is a
pleasure to mention and thank each one individually: Andreas Troullides, Giorgos
Troullides, Christos Patsalides, Costas Andreou, Pantelis Themistokleous,
Yiangos Hadjiyiannis, Gregoris Savvides, Michalis Andreou Polyvios Savva, Dr.
Pantelis Chimonides, Giannos Kiriakou, and Andri Heracleous.
Additinally we thank Melina Markou
and Nikoals Nikolaou (marine biologists) who have put an immense amount of time
and knowledge to prepare the book manual in respect of marine biology.
Needless to say, we thank all the
members of the Cyprus Federation Scientific Committee and CMAS diver instructors
for actively participating on the above projects. In addition, special thanks to
the president of the Cyprus Underwater Federation, Mr. Christakis Eleftheriou,
for all the support and assistance he has given us.
And thank you to everyone else who has
participated in the success of the important projects listed above.
